Catalytic transfer hydrogenation using palladium(II) chloride, zinc powder and various organic acids proved effective for the reduction of a variety of alkenes at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. The method was found to be convenient, economical and uses a stable nonpyrophoric catalyst.
