Abstract:

According to the World Tourism Organization, by 2002 worldwide tourist arrivals reached 698 million visitors and tourism revenues reached $475 billion. Turkey was 14th in the world's tourism earners' list with $7.6 billion per year of tourism revenue. In this article, a profile of Russian tourists in the Antalya region was examined. The Antalya region is a very popular destination and makes an important contribution to Turkish economy. There has been very limited, if any, research that examines the market profile of Russian visitors to the region. The main objective of this study was to examine general travel behavior of Russian visitors to Antalya. Findings from the research provide important information about demographic aspects, travel purposes, accommodation and shopping preferences, positive and negative opinions, and expectations of Russian tourists. The study concludes with appropriate marketing and management implications for the region.
