China Publishing Group is a large-scale national publishing institution, established on April 9, 2002. On March 25, 2004, the State Council authorized the establishment of China Publishing Group Corporation, which exercises the rights of a contributor over its member units and assumes the responsibility for maintaining and increasing the value of the State-owned assets. China Publishing Group has 26 publishing units (including their subsidiaries), 3 large-scale distribution (import and export) institutions, 220 domestic chain-bookstores and big marketplaces, and 23 overseas chain-bookstores and offices. While focusing on production and marketing of publications, the Group's businesses include publishing and marketing, chain-operation, import and export, copyright trade, printing and reproduction, information technology service, scientific research and development as well as fund-raising. Every year, the Group publishes more than 6,500 titles of books, 1,500 types of audio-video products and electronic publications, 44 kinds of journals and 3 newspapers, with the copyright trade of over 2,000 titles of books and journals completed and more than 200,000 sorts of different publications imported and exported.
