Summary We assessed the prevalence of and infections among children using protected and unprotected water sources in the Lege Dini watershed, Eastern Ethiopia, in November 2005 and May 2006. Of 655 children examined, 80 (12.2%) were infected with and 231 (35.3%) with . No difference was observed in the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis ( > 0.05) between children drinking water from protected and unprotected sources.

Nous avons évalué la prévalence des infections àCryptosporidium et Giardia chez les enfants utilisant des sources d’eau protégées et non protégées dans le bassin de Lege Dini, dans l’Est de l’Ethiopie, en novembre 2005 et mai 2006. Sur 655 enfants examinés, 80 (12,2%) étaient infectés par Cryptosporidium et 231 (35,3%) par Giardia. Aucune différence n’a été observée dans la prévalence de la cryptosporidiose et de giardiase (P > 0,05) entre les enfants buvant de l’eau à partir de sources protégées ou non protégées.
