Abstract:

It is difficult to diagnose simultaneously a large number of patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). We therefore examined the clinical usefulness of SleepStrip, a screening device for the easy and rapid diagnosis of OSAHS. We analyzed simultaneously 117 consecutive patients referred for suspected OSAHS with standard polysomnography and SleepStrip. We defined OSAHS arbitrarily as an apnea-hypopnea index of >15, and determined the sensitivity and specificity values to be 1.0 and 0.45, respectively. We found the device a very useful, low-cost tool for screening a large number of patients in a short time to diagnose OSAHS one that is easy to manipulate.
