Weight cycling—can dietitians help break the pattern?
Abstract:The phenomenon of weight cycling presents dietitians with a dilemma—might attempts to treat obesity sometimes do more harm than good by promoting weight cycling? This paper briefly examines the evidence for the possible harmful effects of weight cycling, and presents a case study to illustrate how dietitians can identify weight cycling, give it appropriate consideration as a factor in deciding on treatment, and help break the pattern.
