Batasio spilurus n. sp. is described from the Brahmaputra River drainage in Assam and can be distinguished from congeners in having a short adipose‐fin base (12·6–12·8 v. 14·5–33·3%LS) and more slender caudal peduncle (5·7–6·2 v. 6·7–11·8%LS).
