Using nuclear (introns) and mitochondrial markers, two populations of the Lessepsian fish Upeneus moluccensis sampled from its original (Red Sea) and new habitat (Mediterranean Sea) were compared. No significant genetic difference was observed hence the passage through the Suez Canal does not seem to have affected the genetic diversity at the presumably neutral loci studied.
