Leucocyte lysates from rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss showed an iron‐binding activity that was retained even if the samples were exposed to an acid pH (4·5). Iron‐binding activity of leucocyte supernatants was enhanced by the presence of 1 μg ml−1 phorbol‐12‐myristate‐13‐acetate in the cell medium.
