Highly ordered N-containing mesoporous silica materials with high specific surface area were prepared by heat treatment of the as-synthesized mesoporous silica nanocasted with carbon in its channels in flowing N2 at high temperatures. This is the first time N2-assisted carbothermal reduction–nitridation with nanocasting procedure has been used to prepare ordered mesoporous materials.
