A general description and review is given of a new type of anion-deficient perovskite-based structure where the perovskite parent structure is fragmented by periodically spaced translational interfaces. These interfaces demonstrate properties similar to those of the crystallographic shear (CS) planes in the ReO3-type oxides and can be considered to be CS planes in the perovskite framework that contains cations at the A positions. The building principles and chemical compositions of such CS structures will be discussed.
