Abstract:

Summary

Although hypertension is recognised as one of the major health hazards in the developed world, compliance with antihypertensive regimens is still low. Hypertension brings about unnecessary costs to patients in the form of increased morbidity and mortality and to society in the form of hospitalisations and lost productivity. What are the major challenges in getting patients to the optimal blood pressure goal? This article will attempt to understand how patients and doctors perceive hypertension, understand the different ways medical daily practice is depicted as well as the attitude towards the symptoms, to see whether there is any miscommunication between them, and try to explore the possibilities of enhancing their quality of life by bridging this gap.
