To comment on professional boundary violations within psychiatry and other settings while exploring an ‘out of house’ solution to this long-standing problem. Conclusions:

Boundary violations within psychiatry and other professions have a long history and have generated an extensive literature in Australia. Meaningful measures to address the problem barring expulsion of offenders from professional practice have been hitherto lacking. An independent evaluation and treatment programme addressing the needs of clergy, however, is now available. Parallel models of care focused on education around boundaries may be of value to psychiatrists.
