Abstract:
The enigma of the first person plural pronouns in Gen. i 26, iii 22, and xi 7 can be resolved by careful consideration of their rhetorical and hyperchronic contexts. All three instances emanate from the same speaker in similar situations. Their common rhetorical purpose is to mark out the ontological boundaries between gods and humans. The first person plurals schematize the "we," of "the gods," versus the "them," of "the humans."Document Type: Research article
