Abstract:
This essay focuses on Bonhoeffer's understanding of the body, with special reference to his discussion of bodily life in his Ethics and his chapter `The Body of Christ' in his book Discipleship. Bonhoeffer's understanding of the body and community offers rich resources for reflection on health, healing and care. His critique against a mechanisation of life and an idealisation of community helps to pave the way to what can be called an ethos of interdependent vulnerability. The last section of the essay highlights some contours for such an ethos.Document Type: Research article
