Abstract:
The identification of the nāsrāyē and the krīstyonē in the mobad Kirdīr's inscriptions is still disputed. In this contribution the authors make a systematic examination of the Syriac and Mazdaean sources. Each term, situated in its context, can be understood in its literary and historical environment. The consideration of a geostrategic polarity Irān/Anirān enables us to understand these two designations by means of a re-evaluation of the relationship between Christians and Mazdaeans. Political motives, and their conjoined religious implications, explain the Sasanid authorities' use of these two terms to designate Christians.Document Type: Research article
