Abstract:

In the present paper, an attempt has been made to estimate trends in birth and death rates for a parish in Goa by utilizing the old ecclesiastical records of baptism and burial for the period 1820-1910. Estimates of the Christian Population of the Parish prior to the inception of census operation in the then Portuguese territory of Goa have also been given in the paper. Some of the plausible reasons for the high birth and death rates in the earlier population of the parish have been given.
