Abstract:

The Timandra griseata group is revised with special emphasis on the European taxa. It is concluded that two species with slightly overlapping distribution areas occur in Europe: T. griseata Petersen, 1902 which is confined to northern Europe and T. comai Schmidt, 1931 (= Calothysanis amataria brykaria Nordström, 1943, syn. n.) which is widespread in South and Central Europe. The differences in morphology, yearly occurrence and phenology between T. griseata and T. comai were studied in southern Finland. The following new combinations are proposed: Timandra Paralias (Prout), Timandra recompta ovidius (Bryk) and T. recompta prouti (Inoue). A lectotype for T. griseata Petersen is designated. T. paralias, although not a member of the T. griseata group, is redescribed because of its external resemblance.
