Abstract:

Erasmus' biblical scholarship, in the form of his psalm commentaries and Annotations on the New Testament, constitutes a valuable but inadequately investigated resource for understanding his evaluation of Augustine. A study of Erasmian exegesis yields a complex result. Criticism of Augustine's philological failings competes with an appreciation of his exegetical judgments.
