Reproductive biology of female Parapenaeus Longirostris (Lucas, 1846) (Decapoda, Caridea) in Babadıllimanı Bight in the northeastern Mediterranean

Abstract:

Aspects of the productive biology and size at first sexual maturity of female Parapenaeus longirostris were analysed from monthly samples collected by deep trawling in Babadıllimanı Bight in the northeastern Mediterranean, from June 1999 to April 2000. Ripe females were found to be present between November and June. The spawning season ranged from the end of autumn through the winter (December-March) to the begining of summer (April-June). The minimum female size at maturity (carapace length) was 13.4 mm, and 50% of the female population was mature at about 18.2 mm (CL₅₀). Fecundity ranged from 12 300 to 125 600 eggs for individuals, with a mean fecundity of 49 127 ± 12 524.

Différents aspects de la biologie de la reproduction et la taille à la première maturité sexuelle de la femelle de Parapenaeus longirostris ont été analysés à partir d'échantillons mensuels récoltés par chalutages profonds au niveau du golfe de Babadıllimanı en Méditerranée nord-orientale, de juin 1999 à avril 2000. Des femelles matures ont été trouvées entre novembre et juin. La période de ponte allait de la fin de l'automne, tout au long de l'hiver (décembre-mars) et jusqu'au début de l'été (avril-juin). La taille minimale des femelles à maturité (longueur de la carapace) était de 13,4 mm, et 50% de la population femelle était mature à 18,2 mm environ (CL₅₀). Le taux de fécondité était de 12 300 à 125 600 oeufs par individu, avec une fécondité moyenne de 49 127 ± 25 524 oeufs.
