Pomphorhynchus Spec. (Acanthocephala) Uses the Invasive Amphipod Chelicorophium Curvispinum (G. O. Sars, 1895) As An Intermediate Host in the River Rhine

Abstract:

Acanthocephala of the genus Pomphorhynchus were found to use the very successful PontoCaspian invader Chelicorophium curvispinum (G. O. Sars, 1895) as an intermediate host in the rivers Waal and IJssel, two main branches of the river Rhine in the Netherlands. The parasite fills the bodies of C. curvispinum and may have contributed to the recent decline of C. curvispinum in the area studied.

Des acanthocéphales du genre Pomphorhynchus ont été trouvés, utilisant le très important envahisseur ponto-caspien Chelicorophium curvispinum (G. O. Sars, 1895) comme hôte intermédiaire dans les rivières Waal et IJssel, deux principaux bras du fleuve Rhin aux Pays-Bas. Ce parasite envahit le corps de C. curvispinum et peut avoir ainsi contribué au déclin récent de cette espèce dans l'aire étudiée.
