Abstract:

The complete larval development of Micippa philyra (Herbst, 1803) from hatching to megalopa was obtained. Two zoeal stages and one megalopal stage are described and illustrated. Micippa zoeae can be distinguished from zoeae of other genera by having lateral carapace spines, 6 setae on the endopodite of the maxilla, 0, 1, 4 setae on the endopodite of the second maxilliped and lateral knobs on the abdominal somites 2 and 3. A critical reevaluation of the systematic position of the genus Micippa is suggested on the basis of larval morphology.
