Abstract:

This article assesses the validity of the claim that Puritan theology was “preset for racism” and that it played a preeminent role in establishing racial hatred in America. It does so by examining a number of Puritans beliefs regarding the most important theological justification for slavery, the socalled Curse of Ham.
