Abstract:

ABSTRACT

This investigation aims to make a contribution towards addressing the general lack of academic reflection on second homes in South Africa. In particular, it aims to provide insight into the economic impact of second home development on smaller settlements in remote rural towns in the country. While the empirical evidence demonstrates the unique development characteristics and impact of South African second home development, the investigation also highlights the stimulation of new capital inflow, employment creation and property price appreciation.
