In addition to the well-known emblem literature produced by Gilles Corrozet (1510–68) such as his Hecatomgraphie, most of his other numerous works also reflect an emblematic way of thinking. While his literary style evolved over the course of his long writing and bookselling career, he consistently interpreted the symbolic meaning to be read into every image and composed works firmly based on the emblematic principle, whether actually illustrated by woodcuts or not. The title “emblem” may not always be used, but Corrozet's lesser-known works could also be included in the canon of French
