Landino's Xandra 3.3 and its Ancient Latin Models

The full text article is not available.

Elegy 3.3 of Cristoforo Landino's Xandra (1443–1444), entitled ‘Ad Antonium Canisianum de primordiis urbis Florentinae’, describes the foundation of Florence, celebrates its glories and praises the role of the Medici in its past and present. Reminiscences of Propertius, Virgil and other ancient poets, often modified pointedly and effectively, serve to raise the tone and enhance the prestige of Florence and the Medici.
