Abstract:

Endowed by Blackwell Publishers Ltd, the Annual Blackwell Lecture in Public Culture is hosted by the Institute for Cultural Research at Lancaster University. It provides an opportunity for scholars or public figures of international distinction to reflect upon the analytics and problematics of public culture. Each Lecture will be published in Cultural Values in lieu of the `Cultural Notes' for that issue. The 1997 Blackwell Lecture was given by Alain Touraine at the I.C.R. Time and Value Conference.
