Abstract:

An azo dye containing a β-sulphatoethylsulphonyl and a dimercaptotriazinyl group has been synthesised. Application to cellulose under exhaust and pad-batch conditions gave virtually quantitative levels of exhaustion and `fixation'. Spectral, chromatographic, solubility and chemical evidence suggest dye immobilisation via a polymerisation mechanism rather than by covalent bond fixation.
