The Muslim, the Jew and the African American: America and the production of alterity in Borat

Abstract:

In this paper, I draw on the work of literary critic Wolfgang Kayser and his concept of the grotesque to analyze the recently released film “Borat”. I argue that the film is an allegory of America and some of its Others, including the Muslim, the Jew, and the African American.
