Abstract:

"Way Beyond Craft: Thinking through the Work of Mildred Constantine," examines the legacy of Mildred Constantine (American, b. 1913). As curator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1948 to 1971, and co-author of Beyond Craft: The Art Fabric (1973) and The Art Fabric: Mainstream (1981), Constantine's contributions to fiber-based production throughout the 1970s and 1980s are important and have been long overlooked outside of a small constituency of artists and historians directly impacted by her work.
