Abstract:

This article is an examination of the development of the fashion retrospective exhibition following Diana Vreeland's 1973 The World of Balenciaga exhibition at the Costume Institute, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, considering the problems faced by this genre of exhibition and the curatorial efforts made to address these problems.
