Abstract:

This paper proposed an instrument based on PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) to measure tiny pressing force. A piezoelectric sensor, PVDF, a signal conditioner and a human-machine interface were included in the instrument. To validate the instrument performance, a verified tool was designed with a shaker, a load cell, and other devices. As a result, the signal-to-noise ratio was greater than 40 dB when applying a periodic force of 100 g at 2 Hz on the sensor. Other system performances are 1 Hz to 15 Hz in the frequency bandwidth, 33.5 mV/g in sensitivity, 10 g to 180 g measurable force range, and 4.39% in nonlinearity of output voltage versus input force. By utilizing the sensor on the wrist artery, it could provide pulse information such as amplitude and rate.
