Abstract:

After a careful description of the measurement of the frequency in the case of a magnetostrictive ribbon shape resonator, an analytical model is completely developed and successfully achieved for the first time. It establishes the complete transfer function between the input and output voltages and finally allows to estimate k 33 and Y H , the magneto-mechanical coupling coefficient and the viscous Young modulus of the resonating material, respectively. The present model perfectly agrees with the frequency response which reveals the flipping of resonance and anti-resonance frequencies for some harmonics, which are dependent on the instrumental measuring conditions.
