A New Type of Miniaturisable Ferrofluid Based Locomotion System
Abstract:The present article refers to a system for the ferrofluid based locomotion of non-magnetic objects which can be used preferentially for microtechnical applications. The uniaxial translatory motion of the non-magnetic object situated on the ferrofluid is caused due to the periodic change of the condition parameters of the ferrofluid by a locally fixed electromagnetic field. Beside the functional principle, an examplary design of such a system is introduced. Furthermore, theoretical and experimental analyses of the magnetic field together with the study of the ferrofluid behaviour are discussed with respect to the described system. Finally, basic dynamic characteristics of the locomotion system according to experimental results are presented.
