Abstract:

Thin polymer films have been spin-coated on quartz crystal microbalance resonators for the aims of sensing a number of volatile organic compound gas types. The deposition process has been optimized for obtaining satisfactory quality films. Film thickness has been varied by a multiple spin-coating process and has shown a positive effect on the sensing characteristics. The studied polymers demonstrate improved sensitivity and resolution to a number of gaseous compounds as compared to other similar studies. Owing to an optimum resonator and oscillator design the detection limit has been brought to the ppm range.
