Abstract:

Over the last few years, metal oxide sensors have made a significant step forward in as far as ozone detection limits are concerned. A range of low sensing levels obtained by a number of different techniques and with various metal oxides (In, Sn, W, Zn) is reviewed. Sensor responses vary with growth technique, composition and material nanostructure. Metal oxide sensors compete favorably with existing spectroscopic techniques exhibiting positive responses towards ozone concentrations as low as 15 ppb at room temperature, opening up the road for sub-ppb detection levels. Competition may arise from the new class of nanosensors based on Carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
