FeIn2S4 and MnIn2S4 ternary compound crystals were grown by directional crystallization of the melt (vertical Bridgman method). The composition of the crystals obtained and their crystal structure were defined. The magnetic properties of these
samples were investigated at temperature range of 4–310 K and magnetic field range of 0–140 kOe. It is shown that the crystals are paramagnets up to ∼12 K and the specific magnetic moment rises monotonically with temperature decrease. The antiferromagnetic character of the
indirect exchange interactions between magnetic cations is established. The most likely causes and formation mechanism of magnetic state for FeIn2S4 and MnIn2S4 ternary compound crystals are discussed.
