Spintronics at the Molecular Scale–Progresses and Opportunities

Abstract:Recently molecular-scale spintronics attracted large interest. Here, we aim to give an overview of the state-of-the-art and the prospects of the field. Two main device layouts are discussed: spin filter/transistors and spin-valve architectures with respectively one and more magnetic elements. A discussion on fundamentals of spin polarized and single electron tunneling is also provided.
