Abstract:

A promising new dimension in the field of nanotechnology is the use of plants for the production of inorganic nanoscale particles. Due to their rich diversity, plants have the innate potential for the synthesis of nanoparticles and thus they could be regarded as potential biofactories for nanoparticle synthesis. Nanoparticles produced by plants are more stable and the rate of synthesis is faster than in the microorganisms. The advantages of using plant and plant-derived materials for biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles have interested researchers to investigate mechanisms of metal ions uptake and bioreduction by plants, and to understand the possible mechanism of metal nanoparticle formation in plants. This review article presents a systematic overview of the plants and their capabilities of producing nanoparticles.
