Abstract:

SiC/Cu composites were prepared using a heterogeneous coating method and conventional sintering. The sintering temperature was 850 °C, 900 °C, 950 °C, 1000 °C, 1050 °C for 30 min, respectively. A kinetic Monte Carlo method was carried out to simulate the growth process of Cu crystallites coating on the SiC particles. The XRD, SEM techniques were performed to characterize the samples. It was found that a core-shell structure was constructed in the coated SiC/Cu composites particles. The simulation results indicated that Cu crystallites firstly precipitated on the surfaces of SiC particles, and then grew to form nano crystallites. The spheroid grain growth phenomena appeared during the sintering of SiC/Cu composites. A "spheroid-bridge-spheroid" (SBS) model was proposed for the densification process.
