Abstract:

We investigate the optical resonance of the near-field spectral response of bowtie-shaped nanoapertures in an aluminum film using the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) computations. Pulse-Probe numerical approach is employed to obtain the near-field spectra, and resonant spectral responses are observed. The near-field distributions at resonances are analyzed to illustrate the resonant modes in the bowtie nanoaperture. The dependences of the peak wavelength and peak amplitude on the aperture size, gap size and refractive index of fill-in dielectrics are calculated. The resonant response of bowtie nanoapertures can be widely tuned and precisely engineered using nanofabrication tools. The high sensitivity of resonant response to local environment shows the great potential of bowtie nanoapertures in the use of biochemical sensing and detection.
