Support Structure Design and Optimization of Tidal Current Energy Conversion System

Tidal energy has the potential to play a valuable part in a sustainable energy future. The support part for tidal energy conversion system is the key structure, relating with its safety and economy on a large scale. Three kinds of support structures are presented in this paper for a 10 kw horizontal axis ducted tidal current turbine. Mechanical properties of every support structures are analyzed and compared. A reasonable type is adopted in the actual engineering considering safety and construction convenience. Screening Algorithm, Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm and Non-Linear Programming by Quadratic Lagrangian are employed to optimize the support structure dimension, and the weight is decreased by 21.1%.
