Abstract:
There is a crucial issue to balance the energy dissipation in wireless sensor networks that are capable of prolonging the network lifetime. We present the energy-balanced clustering routing protocol (EBCP) based on the extensive analysis of LEACH algorithm. EBCP considers the nodes' energy when clustering, and takes the nodes' energy as a factor of the cluster head election: Increasing the probability to be cluster head of the higher-level energy nodes, and decreasing the probability to be cluster head of the lower-level energy nodes, so the nodes can adjust their probability to be cluster head as to their energy. Simulation results show that the modified algorithm can balance the energy distribution of the network and achieve better performance than LEACH in terms of the network lifetime. Keywords: WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS; CLUSTERING STRUCTURE; ENERGY CONSUMPTION
