Hydrothermal Synthesis of Attapulgite/CeO2 Nanocomposites and Their Catalytic Degradation Property on Methylene Blue
Abstract:Attapulgite supported with CeO2 (ATP/CeO2 nanocomposites were prepared by hydrothermal method using hexamethylenetetramine as precipitant. The formation details were investigated by a combination of transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). Results indicated that the CeO2 particles around 10 nm demonstrated excellent dispersion on attapulgite with remarkable immobilization at an optimal synthetic condition, which correspondingly exhibited enhanced catalytic degradability on methylene blue. The increased amount of lattice oxygen vacancy was proposed to be attributed to the mutual ion-exchange between ATP and CeO2 and therefore responsible for the improvement of catalytic oxidation property.
