Local Hidden Variables Models Resting Upon the Wigner Function of Quantum Optics

Abstract:

Developing an idea of John Bell, I study the possibility of constructing local hidden variables models for optical experiments when the Wigner function of the radiation field happens to be positive. It is shown that the main difficulty for the said models derives from the fact that the quantum theory of detection is not compatible with local realism. A local model of detection is proposed which agrees with quantum theory for intense light.
