C-Reactive Protein: The Evolution of a Laboratory Test
Abstract:Question: From time to time, new laboratory tests are introduced. How are laboratory tests identified, how do they evolve, and what pressures and concerns mold their evolution?
Answer: We often do take laboratory tests for granted, giving little thought to their development and acceptance by practitioners. The process is complex, and often controversial. The development of C-reactive protein (CRP) testing illustrates these issues nicely.
