Abstract:

An annular plate designed to suppress excessive vibrations of clamped beams and clamped plates is described and optimum values of its tuning and damping parameters are specified in graphical form. The tuning has been determined so as to suppress the first resonance which is the most troublesome for structures. The main and auxiliary systems are assumed to have structural damping. With appropriate selection of the tuning and damping parameters, the fundamental resonance of the main system is split into two new ones with considerably reduced amplitudes. In order to verify the analysis, an experimental investigation was carried out and the results obtained are compared with the theory developed.
