Abstract:

This essay is based on three books which have emerged in 1995 under the overall editorship of Marilyn Strathern. They are part of a series of five representing the output of the 4th Decennial Conference of the Association of Social Anthropologists, held at St. Catherine's College, Oxford, in July 1994.
