Abstract:

Advanced lightwave technology for future undersea cable network, in which wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) plays an important role, is presented. Ultra-large-capacity transmission on the order of 100 Gb/s using NRZ-WDM and soliton (or RZ)-WDM as well as flexible, survivable, and secure networking functions as represented by an optical add-drop multiplexing and optical cross-connect are discussed.
