Abstract:

Woody plant species used by hunter–gatherer groups during the Archaic period (10,000–3000 years bp) were studied from materials recovered at an archaeological site of the southern Argentine Puna, province of Catamarca: Quebrada Seca 3. The comparative anatomical and morphological analysis of the current and archaeological plants allowed the identification of the latter. The results indicated the differential use of the different plant associations which developed in the area surrounding the site at different moments of the Archaic period in relation to paleoclimatic changes.
